Since 7 October, can answer with charts, buttons, forms and small tools right inside the conversation. calls it Intelligent UI, and it ships with on every plan, including the free one. Anyone who lands on your website after using it will compare your chatbot with that.
Here we sum up what announced, what changes for a business website chatbot and when a custom one connected to your business is worth it.
What OpenAI announced
The first models were already available to paying customers last month. What is new, according to OpenAI’s official announcement, is a model for every user, and it brings Intelligent UI. It started rolling out on 7 October to Plus, Pro, Business and Enterprise plans, in the Chat tab, and expanded to Free and Go the next day. Paid plans run on and free ones on Luna. On Enterprise, availability depends on how the administrator configures the workspace.
says it trained to compose each answer from text, visuals and interactive elements, choosing the mix based on the question. A comparison can appear side by side, an explanation as an interactive diagram and a specific task as a tool: its examples are a savings calculator and a bill splitter for dinner with friends. When plain text is the most useful answer, it answers in text.
Underneath there is a library of native components and a compiler that renders the interface as the model generates it, without waiting for the full response. According to , starts answering while it keeps thinking, and on questions that need web search the Instant version starts answering 44% sooner on average than Instant. We have not measured it ourselves. The change only applies to the Chat experience; the models behind Work and do not change in this release.
Why it matters for your website chatbot
puts weekly users at more than 1.2 billion. Many of them have just seen that an answer can come with an adjustable table, a form or a button that takes them to the next step. If the box on your website only returns paragraphs, the gap shows.
Reactions on X went that way. Max Wang put it like this: «The chat box spent two years as a terminal. It’s finally becoming an interface. Every chatbot designer’s job description just got rewritten.» Shawn Chauhan said something similar: «OpenAI didn’t ship a smarter chatbot. It shipped a model that designs the interface.»
You do not need to copy . Your chatbot has something lacks: access to your catalogue, prices, calendar and orders. What does go up is what visitors expect to get.
What a business chatbot should offer now
Before adding visual pieces, the chatbot should get the basics right. These are the things we check on a website:
- Answers from your data. It should answer about your real offer and say when it does not know, instead of improvising.
- Next steps you can tap. Buttons to book, see a product or talk to a person, instead of a sentence telling people to go find the link.
- Forms inside the conversation. If a quote needs three details, the chatbot can ask for them and leave them ready for the visitor to check.
- Comparisons and cards. When someone is choosing between two plans or products, a short table is easier to read than a long paragraph.
- Handover to a person. With the conversation context, so nobody has to repeat everything.
What we do not recommend is generating calculators or price tables on the fly without verified data behind them: if the number is wrong, the visual format makes it look more reliable. Tools that show amounts or deadlines should come from your data and from rules you control.
When a custom chatbot makes sense
A standard widget is usually enough for FAQs. A custom chatbot starts to pay off when it has to query your systems (catalogue, CRM, bookings or ERP), complete tasks with permission, show information that changes every day or follow your business rules without going off script.
At LetBrand we build chatbots and agents that answer about your content and, on a custom project, connect to your data and complete authorised tasks with human oversight. Keys stay on the server. To see how it works today, our business chatbots page has a demo that really answers questions about the service. If you are interested in voice and tools, we cover them in this article on website chatbots.
If your current chatbot stops at plain text, or you do not have one yet, tell us what it needs to do and we will tell you what fits.
